Royal Dux Bohemia Art Nouveau Figures By H. Schubert

An important pair of Royal Dux Bohemia Art Nouveau figures modelled by Hermann Schubert in 1912. The mirrored compositions depict seated maidens beneath spreading trees accompanied by winged putti, with integrated baskets incorporated into the sculptural design.

Executed in matte biscuit porcelain with delicate gilding and softly shaded pastel enamels, the figures display Royal Dux’s finest Art Nouveau workmanship, especially in the satin-like drapery that gives the impression of shimmering silk.

The compositions most likely form an allegory of Spring and Summer, combining Symbolist themes with elegant flowing Art Nouveau lines. The open basket beside the seated maiden was conceived as part of the original decorative idea, intended for flowers, potpourri or fresh berries.

The undersides retain the pink Royal Dux Bohemia mark together with incised model numbers 2441 and 2442. A moulded signature “H. Schubert” appears to the side, identifying the sculptor responsible for the original models.

Original matching pairs from this Royal Dux series are considerably rarer than single surviving figures, and the preservation of both consecutive models together makes the pair especially desirable to collectors of important Art Nouveau porcelain.
