Large Venetian Wrought-iron Key - Italy - 16th/17th Century
Elegant and rare large wrought-iron key, made in Venice during the late Renaissance or early Baroque period, circa 16th-17th centuries. This key is distinguished by its remarkable openwork ring richly decorated with geometric and floral motifs around a central star, framed by refined volutes characteristic of Venetian ironwork of this period.
The long cylindrical shaft terminates in a complex, multi-toothed bit, designed for a sophisticated lock mechanism intended for an important door, chest or prestigious cabinet.
The surface shows a beautiful old patina as well as traces of oxidation consistent with its age, emphasizing the object's authentic, sculptural character.
