"Gothic Bronze Candlestick - Southern Netherlands - Late 15th Century"
Gothic Bronze Candlestick - Southern Netherlands, Late 15th Century. A rare and elegant bronze candlestick, originating from the former Low Countries and dating from the late 15th century. This piece is characterized by a slender stem adorned with successive knobs (buttons), typical of the production of workshops in the Low Countries during the late Middle Ages. The cylindrical socket has a rectangular opening to facilitate the removal of wax or to adjust the candle. It rests on a flared and stable base, composed of a circular plate surmounting a truncated conical foot, ensuring balance and elegance. The harmonious silhouette, the simplicity of the decoration, and the beautiful antique patina attest to a late Gothic production, both functional and refined. This type of candlestick was used in both domestic interiors and religious settings. In very good condition, with wear and patina consistent with its age.
