Micromosaic Table Attributed To The Workshop Of Michelangelo Barberi - Italy - 19th Century
Round table with an exceptionally finely executed micromosaic composition on black Belgian marble, mounted on a gilded wooden pedestal.
The central field depicts a rich bouquet of flowers and fruit - including roses, grapes, citrus and peaches - rendered with remarkable detail and subtle gradations of color.
The border consists of geometric ornaments in green, blue, red and gold.
The quality and refinement of the mosaic, as well as the vivid, harmonious composition, are characteristic of the workshop of Michelangelo Barberi (1787-1867), one of the most renowned masters of Roman micromosaic art in the XIXᵉ century.
Such works were often created for travelers on the Grand Tour as prestigious souvenirs from Italy.
