Pair Of Bourgeois Chairs By Barbedienne (1810-1892)
Artist: Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892)
Pair of small candlesticks produced by the renowned bronze sculptor Barbedienne (each candlestick is signed on the base). With a beautiful rose-bronze patina, these small candlesticks are in the Louis XIII style, a style very fashionable for the dining rooms or country residences of high society during the reign of Napoleon III. Ferdinand Barbedienne was the foundryman for the great sculptors of his time: Rude, Carrier-Belleuse, Mêne, etc., but he is best known for his animal bronzes of Barye. He created numerous bronze furniture pieces, sometimes with enamel inclusions. It is the quality of his bronzes, their chasing, and their patina that made him famous. Note that one of the candlesticks has been drilled for electrification. Careful worldwide shipping.
