"Seated Buddha In Gilded Bronze, 'shan' Style – Burma – Early 19th Century"
Small sand-cast bronze Buddha, approximately 13 cm high, depicting the Buddha seated in a meditation posture (bhumisparsha mudra), his right hand touching the earth. The stylized face, the pointed bun (ushnisha) in the shape of a flame, as well as the engraved folds of the monastic robe suggest a Shan origin (present-day northeastern Burma). Old patina with traces of original gilding and oxidation typical of time. Probably made in the 19th century. An authentic and sober piece, representative of the Burmese Buddhist tradition.
