Virgin And Child In Carved Boxwood - Southern Netherlands (dutch/flemish) - 17th Century

Virgin and Child, Southern Netherlands (Flemish or Dutch work), 17th century, finely carved boxwood sculpture. The Virgin is depicted standing, draped in a long, flowing cloak, holding the Infant Jesus on her left arm. The treatment of the faces and drapery is characteristic of devotional sculpture from the former Low Countries in the 17th century. Beautiful old patina. Minor restorations are visible, particularly to the face and base.
