Descent From Cross, Bronze Plaque With Beautiful Relief, 18th Or 19th Century, 29 Cm

A Depiction of Christ, freely inspired by Rubens’ painting, a panel shaped like a tabernacle door or a small liturgical panel: arched top, narrow vertical format, highly detailed religious relief.
Iconography inspired by Rubens’s: Christ being lowered by several figures, ladders, cross diagonally across the composition, a group of women at bottom, and heavenly figures on top.

Sand-cast bronze, of fine quality; details are so clearly visible that one can make out the small traces of various molds fitted together to create the composition.
29 cm x 16 cm, weight approximately 1.5 kg.
This work, which is unchiseled, is highly artisanal; the casting is likely from 18th or 19th century; Ihave not found any similar examples in the literature to aid my research.
On back, there are traces of pewter fastenings from the previous collector, along with his carved oak nameplate.
