Bronze 'franco-flemish' Candlestick From The Renaissance Period - Flanders - Early 16th Century

A turned brass candlestick, characteristic of early 16th-century Flemish production. The slender stem, punctuated by a series of bulges, rings, and moldings, rests on a wide, flared, bell-shaped base, typical of models used in the Southern Netherlands at that time. The cylindrical candle holder has a rectangular opening on the side, a detail found on some early forms designed to facilitate the removal of wax residue. The entire piece shows clearly visible traces of turning, particularly on the inside of the base, as well as an old patina with occasional greenish oxidations characteristic of antique brass. With its slender silhouette, heavy and stable base, and understated decoration, this piece perfectly illustrates the utilitarian yet elegant aesthetic of early Renaissance Flemish metalwork.
