Rare Early Renaissance knife bolster, dating from the early 16th century.

Made of bronze, this remarkable piece is fully engraved on all six sides as well as on the top, testifying to the finest craftsmanship. In particular, the decoration features two engraved nimbed figures on either side, as well as an elegant female bust portrait topped with a chignon.

By the richness of its ornamentation and the quality of its execution, this mitre perfectly illustrates the refinement of the art of the table during the Renaissance, as well as the skill of the craftsmen of the period.
