Allegorical Wax Seal In Gilded Bronze And Silver Plated Metal - Winged Putto & Coat Of Arms
Description
Gilt bronze and silver-plated wax seal, with octagonal matrix finely engraved with allegorical decoration depicting a winged putto beside a flowering shrub and an armorial shield bearing the letters "AC".
The peripheral legend, read in reverse, evokes a sentimental 18th-century motto.
APRES LA PEINE LE PLAISIR
The handle features elegant neoclassical engraved decoration, topped with red cabochons imitating ruby or garnet, in an openwork surround reminiscent of some late 18th- or early 19th-century goldsmith work.
Very fine desk and collector's item, both refined and decorative, testifying to the taste for personal seals and gallant allegories.
