Italian-made Infantry Saber , Model An Ix, Called "briquet" Signed

Artist: Bianchi, Fabrica Nazionale De Brescia
This saber is an infantry short saber called "briquet" (lighter") , model of year IX (1801) These "An IX"models are much rarer than the innumerable An XI models that succeeded them. Here, the model is even more interesting, as it is an Italian made by Fabrica Nazionale de Brescia, for the troops of the young Italian Republic, the so-called "sister republic" of the French Republic of the Revolution. The marking on the blade helps to clarify this attribution: On the back is the maker's name Bianchi, and the acronym F N for Fabrica Nazionale ( this is the Fabrica Nazionale of Brescia). The majority of blades from this factory are signedby Barisoni. Other swordmakers names are mentioned, but are much more rarely encountered.
Also found on the blade and on the hilt are the hallmark R I for Republica Italiana.
The Italian Republic existed from 1802 to 1805. The president of the state was ...the 1st consul Napoleon Bonaparte.
From 1805 to 1815, the Republic became the Kingdom of Italy, whose King was ...Napoleon 1st.  As there was no reason to change the acronym R I, the italian swordmakers  kept the same marking.
This saber is therefore an interesting historical piece which was present during the wars of the Revolution and the 1st Empire. It was acquired from a collector who is said to have collected it in the Lake  of Como region.
BLADE : after a very short 7mm ricasso, it takes on a triangular cross-section with two flat faces and flat-backed, like the French regulation model. On the last 14 cm near the tip, small counter-edge.
On the outer face, stamped R I in cursive (Republica Italiana). On the back of the blade Bianchi, C(?) F.N. (I am not sure how to read the "C" character between Bianchi and F.N).  A gunsmiht and swordsmith named Giuseppe Bianchi is known in the Brescia area, in Gardone around 1799, perhaps from the same family?  Blade length = 58 cm, Shoulder width = 3.5 cm, shoulder thickness 8.7 mm
HILT  : It is made of brass, monobloc, with 37 strands. The quillon is inclined towards the blade, ending in a quadrangular trumpet. On the outside, an old repair has been made by soldering of a small piece of brass, to repair a gash made in combat. Punch marl R I on the knuckle bow
SCABBARD  : made of blackened cow leather , with brass scabbard entrance and chape , which are attached by punching. Scabbard is probably later, as the little "bridge" for leather attach is in the high position found on An XI models. Stitched leather fastener for attachment to gusset sword-holder.
This is an unusual model, used during the wars of the French Revolution and Empire, by Italian infantry troops serving in the service of France.
