Native American War Club In Blackened Burl, From The Forests Of The Northeastern United States
Provenance: Northeastern U.S. forest region, Quebec or Ontario Era: 19th century or earlier Dimensions: 40.6 cm (H) x 12.7 cm (Ø)
Stunningly beautiful in its simplicity, rusticity and violent appearance, this superb 19th century (or earlier) blackened burl war club comes from the Northeastern U.S. forest region and is probably of Penobscot or Iroquois origin. Hardened and blackened by fire, it bears clear signs of combat use. A hole drilled at the base for a lanyard is visible. The partially missing magnifying glass reveals the raw wood beneath its fire-blackened surface. An extremely fine, if rudimentary, example of a natural weapon in Native American civilization. Presented vertically on a contemporary stand.
