Grotesque Head, 14th-century Portuguese Sandstone On A Base
A charming grotesque head in Portuguese sandstone, dating from around the 14th century. Sculpted in the round, it features beautiful, round, rudimentary eyes, a simply shaped nose, and a strangely open mouth. Swirls of hair are also sculpted at the top of the head. Remarkably large and aesthetically pleasing, it rests on a contemporary metal base.
