Painted and decorated Hacilar bowl, dating from the Chalcolithic (approx. 5600-5400 B.C.), Anatolia (present-day southwest Turkey). Magnificent and remarkably rudimentary, this clay bowl is decorated with orange bands around the rim and vertical motifs in relief on the body. It shows repairs, with no missing parts, which is typical of objects from this period unearthed during archaeological digs. This exceptional 7,500-year-old object illustrates the beauty and craftsmanship of Chalcolithic man.
