Eugène Alluaud ( 1866-1947) La Creuse Aux Fougères ~1915. Crozant School, Guillaumin, Detroy
Artist: Eugène Alluaud ( 1866-1947)
SUPERB new oil on canvas by Eugène Alluaud depicting a Creuse riverbank at Les Fougères circa 1915/1920, signed lower left + titled on back with number, probably exhibition.
Frame size 54x45cm and 72x63cm.
This is a magnificent Post-Impressionist composition by Eugène Alluaud, depicting the Creuse riverbank at Les Fougères, a small hamlet between Bonnu and Crozant. Produced around 1915/1920, Alluaud was in full command of his art at the time, with a powerful brushstroke that played with the material, leaving subtle reserves. As for his palette, it's very typical, with its famous mauves, cameos of soft greens, blues and subtle touches of orange or vermilion in places.
It's impossible not to think of his friend Armand Guillaumin, even if Alluaud has found his own style, the Creuse master's influence is obvious. For my customers, who recently admired a very fine Guillaumin on the Roche de l'Echo, now sold, the comparison is blatant....
I no longer need to introduce Eugène Alluaud, the emblematic painter and above allfederator of the Crozant school, he is now one of the 5 most popularpainters of this school alongside his friends: Guillaumin (his master) (his master), Detroy (his faithful friend), Madeline and Alfred Smith (family ties).
