"Nicu Enea (1897-1960) Shepherds In Romania. Romanian School, România, Bacău, Bucharest, Petrașcu"
Rare and superb gouache or mixed technique on cardboard by Nicu Enea representing shepherds and their flocks in Romania, signed lower left. Format of the painting seen without frame 26x31cm but it must be larger because parts are hidden by the marie-louise. It is therefore a magnificent composition with a fauve tendency by this excellent Romanian painter who paints here a lively scene of shepherds and their flocks in a Romanian countryside, the shepherds are dressed in their traditional clothes. His touch is powerful and his palette lively and colorful with a beautiful subtlety of complementary tones. Nicu Enea is therefore a Romanian painter. He first enrolled at the School of Fine Arts in Bucharest (1921), which he attended intermittently, following the courses of George Demetrescu Mirea. Nicu Enea then preferred to study at the Free Academy of Painting, where classes were taught by Jean Alexandru Steriadi, Gheorghe Petrașcu and Arthur Verona. In 1934, he represented Romania at the International Painting Exhibition in Paris, where he received a meritorious award: the silver medal for the work "Elvira" - a portrait of his wife. In 1937, the painters Nicu Enea and Ion Diaconescu founded the Municipal Art Gallery of Bacău. In the 1940s, he received a commission to paint royal palaces. In 1942, he was commissioned to renovate the Orthodox Cathedral in Chișinău. After 1945, the communists accused him of being too close to the Royal House and removed him from artistic life. He lived for many years in Bacău, where he painted the Church of the Holy Voivodes in the CFR district and the dome of the Bacovia Theatre. He was buried in the Eternitatea Cemetery in Bacău. Also in Bacău, the "Nicu Enea" Memorial House was established thanks to a donation from his wife and the street on which the house is located is named after him; I finally advise you to go see a very interesting report on YouTube: Casa Memorială "Nicu Enea" This gouache is in its original condition, rather very good, I just point out 2 small scratches at the top left which can be easily restored.
