This is therefore a magnificent enamel on copper by Léon Jouhaud, so Léontine se coiffant, circa 1913/1915. Enamels from this period, i.e. rather early, around 1913/1915, are always of the highest quality. Jouhaud uses opaque painted enamels in warm shades of ochre, orange, balnc, violet etc., but he also uses translucent enamels for the stockings. His designs are of course highly stylized, typical of the period. At the time, Jouhaud liked to work in circular formats.
There's no need to introduce Jouhaud, the famous enamel painter from Limoges, renowned for his enamels, which he exhibited at Rouart in Paris. He also produced pastels, watercolors, drawings, oils, ceramics and even books.

Léon Jouhaud, born December 23, 1874 in Limoges and died in 1950, was a French enameller, watercolorist and pastellist.

Léon Jouhaud studied privately, passed his baccalaureate in 1892 anda passion for bacteriology, studied medicine in Limoges andin Limoges, then in Paris.

He practiced in his hometown from 1903 to 1906, then embarked on an artistic career artistic career in enamel, an old local tradition.tradition. His early aesthetic, neo-impressionism, evolved towardsscenes, with soft or cubist lines and bold colors. He shared many technical developments with Camille Tharaud and produced several porcelain pieces in his home.
Léon Jouhaud, who practiced painting at the same time as enameling, appeared, from 1910, at the exhibitions of the Société des artistes indépendants and the Société des artistes français in Limoges and Paris; he exhibited pastel paintings as well as painted enamels (genre scenes, landscapes, still lifes)
There is a fine book on his work and several exhibition catalogs.
