Rare and sublime oil on canvas by Augustin Lhardy signed, located and dated Madrid 1900 lower right + located in the Guadarrama mountains near Madrid + dedicated "to Mr G. Gaudry a friend". Format of the canvas alone without frame 35.5x58cm and 44x66cm including frame. Provenance: Descendants of the Gaudry family to whom this painting is dedicated, never released on the art market. This is a magnificent impressionist composition by Augustin Lhardy, who paints here his region of birth, heart and death, Madrid and its surroundings and more precisely here the mountains of Guadarrama in 1900. Agustin Lhardy Garrigues (Madrid, August 20, 1847-Madrid, April 3, 1918) was a landscape painter and chef who owned the Lhardy restaurant. He was a student of the painter Carlos Haes who influenced him considerably in his later pictorial career. As a gourmet and cook, he had a great work following in his father's footsteps, disseminating and promoting Madrid's gastronomy. He was the eldest son of Emilio Huguenin Lhardy, a Frenchman who settled in Madrid and is known for having founded the Lhardy restaurant in 1839. Baptized in the church of San Sebastian, he was raised in France during his childhood. Already in his adolescence, he returned to Madrid and studied at the special school of painting, sculpture and engraving under Carlos Haes. This landscape artist must have greatly influenced Agustin. Augustin made his first public appearance at the Platería de Martinez exhibition in 1874. He participated in the Universal Exhibition of 1878 in Paris. From this appearance, he exhibited as many times as possible and thus managed to make a name for himself. The 20th century began with the management of Agustin Lhardy in charge of the restaurant and began to stand out as a renowned gastronomic of the time combining these works with those of a painter.
