Helmet Of The Paris Republican Guard Mounted Cavalry, Model 1876/33, French Cavalry

A fine Model 1876/33 troop helmet of the Paris Republican Guard mounted cavalry.
The brass band is adorned with the coat of arms of the city of Paris and the motto "Fluctuat Nec Mergitur" (It is tossed by the waves but does not sink). The band -- adopted in 1933 -- also displays the Legion of Honour awarded to the city of Paris in 1900 as well as the Croix de Guerre, awarded to the city in 1919.
The crest, also made of brass, features a Medusa head mask at the top. Its sides are decorated with gadroons, palmettes, and water leaves. It is surmounted by a stylized plume holder adorned with scarlet horsehair.
The helmet body, visor, and neck guard are made of nickel-plated steel.
It is stamped on the back with the service numbers of the Republican Guards who wore it, as well as the head size "60 1/2" and the manufacturer's stamp "Siraudin Paris" (see photo).
The helmet is complete with its chin straps and features a beautiful black horsehair mane of approximately 75 cm long.
It has its original black leather lining, with the inside of the visor and neck guard also covered in leather.
All parts are original and the helmet is in very good overall condition. There is minor wear to the lining.
It is sold with a later scarlet feather plume.
The total height of the helmet (excluding the mane) is 33 cm.
