Splendid set for a French cuirassier officer, Model 1874, entirely original and of exceptional quality. Undoubtedly a luxury item made for a wealthy officer.
This type of set was worn from 1874 to 1914.
It comprises:
1/ A model 1874 crested officer helmet in mint condition.
The bowl, visor, and neck guard are made of silver-plated copper. The silver plating, still almost entirely intact, has developed a beautiful patina over time and now has a dark gray appearance. The silver color can easily be restored, but I recommend preserving this beautiful patina.
The crest and headband are made of brass enhanced with superb gilding, also almost entirely intact. The headband is decorated on the front with a flaming grenade and laurel leaves. The crest features a Medusa head mask at its top. Its sides are decorated with gadroons, palmettes, and water leaves. Finally, the whole is topped with a stylized plume holder and a scarlet horsehair plume.
The chin straps are of the officer's pattern, decorated with stylized scales in gilt brass (nearly 100% gilding), mounted on leather chin straps covered in black velvet.
It has its original, very long black horsehair plume, measuring approximately 95 cm long. The vintage plume, made of tricolored feathers, identifies a staff officer. It is complete with its silver bullion officer's olive.
The original lining is made of black leather adorned with a gilt floral frieze, still nearly 100% intact. The inside of the visor and neck guard are both covered in black leather. Very good overall condition with some light wear.

2/ An officer's cuirass, Model 1855 in mint condition.
It consists of a breastplate and a backplate in polished steel, ot the heavy type for combat.
Both are signed by the national Châtellerault arm factory in February 1893 and are the same size (third size, extra width No. 2).
It is a perfectly matching set, never mismatched.
Shoulder straps in gilded brass mounted on leather. At the back, the shoulder straps are attached to the backplate by gilded plates depicting lion heads. At the front, the shoulder straps lock onto the breastplate with rectangular gilded locks, richly chased with foliage and palmettes.
All the leather parts, including the belt, are original and in very good condition.
