Description:
Round metal Theca reliquary, decorated in relief with a radiant cross, accompanied by a scroll bearing the inscription “De Ligno SS Crucis” (From the Wood of the Most Holy Cross).
The reliquary retains its original seal intact on its reverse, composed of silk threads and a red wax seal, guaranteeing its inviolability.
It is accompanied by its authentic original manuscript, issued in 1898 by Paulus Comes Goethals, Archbishop of Calcutta, attesting to the nature of the relic: “Ex Ligno Sanctissimae Crucis Domini Nostri Jesu Christi” (From the Wood of the Most Holy Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ).
The document also mentions an earlier approval by Cardinal Engelbert Sterckx, Archbishop of Mechelen, reinforcing the ecclesiastical provenance of the relic.
Late 19th-century work, typical of Belgian devotional objects made for missions.
Condition:
Good, with wear and oxidation consistent with age. Seal intact.
