Auguste Durst 1842-1930? - Large Canvas - Dreamy Young Servant Or Lover
Artist: Attribuée Auguste Durst (1942-1930) ?
A large and beautiful canvas from the late 19th or early 20th century, depicting the portrait of a young servant girl leaning against a tree, who appears dreamy or in love. The painting is unsigned, but its former owner acquired it at a sale of the studio of the painter Auguste Durst (1942-1930). He was an excellent artist to whom the Bénézit dictionary devotes a significant chapter, and whose biography can be found on Wikipedia. Note: this canvas has not been recently examined by an expert and is therefore being sold as "French school." This does not prevent the future buyer from conducting their own investigations, particularly by consulting an expert of their choice. Objectively speaking, this attribution seems credible based on the artist's paintings that can be seen online. Aside from the question of attribution, it is a pleasing work, as it depicts a young woman who seems to have stepped straight out of an Émile Zola novel. Zola, whose artistic touch, quick and energetic, is somewhat reminiscent of Berthe Morisot's world... Canvas (old relining): 81 cm x 57 cm Frame (recent): 90 cm x 66 cm
