Aramaic Incantation Bowl On Stand
Incredible Aramaic incantation bowl or demon trap, dating from the 3rd to 5th century AD. A striking repeating pattern adorns the rim of the bowl, descending towards its center. A female figure, likely the one intended to be trapped, is depicted in the center. These bowls were placed under floors or in doorways, with apotropaic intent, to trap evil spirits or entities before they entered the house. The figure inside represented the target. The outer rim of the bowl shows some old wear, but the rest is in excellent condition and very beautiful. Provenance: Joel Warren Collection, USA.
