"Egyptian Baboon In Steatite, Rare Specimen From The Late Period (664-332 Bc)."
An incredible and extremely rare black steatite baboon figurine from the Late Period of Egypt (664-332 BC). This figurine, an unusual representation of the god Thoth, god of writing and mathematics, is magnificently sculpted: carefully styled hair, hands resting on the body, bent knees, finely worked fur, and precise details, particularly in the face. Presented on a period base. A truly rare and exceptional example. Provenance: Collection of the curator of a museum in Quebec
