A brilliant and moving study of a woman in mourning, by Sir John Watson Gordon (1788-1864), President of the Royal Academy of Scotland. A sketch of incredible delicacy and great evocative power. Sir John Watson Gordon was elected President of the Royal Academy of Scotland in 1850, having been a member since 1840.
