"Egyptian New Kingdom Palm Wood Lion Figurine"
Magnificent and rare palm wood sculpture of a lion, dating from the New Kingdom of Ancient Egypt, between 1550 and 1070 BC. An incredible, if crude, representation of a lion, showing the details of the mane, the subtle details of the face and eyes, the open mouth and tongue, and the musculature of the body. Losses, particularly to the forelimbs, have been noted over time, as is common with Egyptian figures of this period. Dots and traces of palm wood are still present throughout the figure. An exceptional and rare specimen of this form. Provenance: From the renowned collection of Barcelona collector Marti Mas Tubau.
