Circa 1900, Morocco. A chest cover in Fez embroidery in shades of cochineal red, dating from the Belle Époque. Very fine embroidery in silk thread on ecru cotton. The design is dense with interlocking lozenges in an Arab-Andalusian style, reminiscent of mashrabiya screens. The complete piece is embroidered on a single piece of cotton, with original scalloped, two-tone silk edges on all four sides. Its intended purpose was to cover a chest or a table. A beautiful piece of Moroccan art! No flaws. It is worth noting that I have rarely handled Fez embroideries of this quality. Excellent condition in terms of color and preservation. Dimensions: 121 cm long by 89 cm wide.
