Baluster Vase With Serpentine Handles In Delftware, 18th Century
Two-handled Delftware vase, 18th century. Height: 32.5 cm — Width: 17.5 cm — Depth: 16 cm • Signed under the base. An elegant baluster-shaped vase with two handles in Delftware, finely decorated in blue monochrome. The body features a delicately rendered pastoral scene, typical of 18th-century Dutch production: female figures by the water, wooded landscapes, sailboats, and lakeside architecture, executed with great mastery of cobalt wash. The richly ornamented neck is flanked by two handles sculpted in the form of stylized serpents or dragons, highlighted with blue dots. Beneath the lip, a molded mask enlivens the composition, reflecting the Baroque taste still prevalent in Delft workshops at this time. The wide, flared base is adorned with lambrequins, scrolls, and floral motifs, perfectly balanced and executed with remarkable vivacity. The piece is distinguished by the quality of its modeling, the precision of its lines, and the harmony of its decoration, characteristics of the finest Delft manufactures of the 18th century. A striking piece, combining technical virtuosity and decorative refinement.
