Oval Majolica Cache Pot, Jardiniere Or Planter By édouard Gilles, Napoleon III
Artist: édouard Gilles
Rare and sumptuous French cache pot or jardinière signed Édouard Gilles, dated circa 1880. Entirely handmade, this exceptional piece is distinguished by its rich relief decoration of branches, foliage, and blooming roses. The handles in the shape of curled branches add a striking realism. Decorated on all sides, this slip impresses both for its size and the finesse of its floral ornamentation. Good condition, despite slight loss of petals and a discreet restoration ( Please refer to the detailed photo (indicated by a black arrow) to observe the delicate restoration, which remains nearly imperceptible to the eye ). Patina of use consistent with its age. Numbered 110 on the reverse. Dimensions: 56 cm long, 46 cm wide, 32 cm high. Oval upper opening measuring 34.5 × 26 cm.
Weight: 11 kg. An emblematic work of late 19th-century naturalist romanticism, coveted by lovers of French majolica.
