Cup, Openwork Basket In Malicorne Earthenware

Oblong cut. The side grips with delicate decorations of bunches of grapes and vine leaves. Fully perforated all around. Stylized flowers and foliage run across the base and crenellated top of the cup. Garlands of flowers fall alternately on the bars. A beautiful landscape in shades of purple covers the background. It sits on eight small square feet
.Rare model signed Émile Tessier (1887 - 1971) under the base.
Émile Tessier was, through his personality and talent, Malicorne's most emblematic earthenware maker. From 1928 to 1971, his vast ceramic culture and a profoundly modernist technicality enabled him to build one of the largest earthenware factories in the West of France. Emile Tessier, himself trained at Pouplard, founded his own workshops in 1924. He perfected an openwork technique that would make his productions famous. His pottery located between Angers and Le Mans will later become the pottery FAM (Faiencerie d'Art de Malicorne)
