"Marie Laforge 1865-1942...large Impressionist Canvas To Be Restored...woman Reading"
Large and beautiful Impressionist canvas "in need of restoration" dating from around 1900-1920, depicting a pleasant interior scene with a seated woman engrossed in her reading. The work is signed on the reverse by Marie Laforge (1865-1942), an excellent artist to whom the Bénézit dictionary dedicates a chapter and whose biography can be found on Wikipedia. From 1889 to 1921, she exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français, winning a bronze medal in 1903 and a gold medal in 1920. In 1910, she was also a Fellow of the Royal Society of London for her miniature paintings and later taught at the renowned Académie Julian in Paris. Values and auction results: her paintings are quite rare on the market, as the auction results website "Art-Price" lists only six sales in the last 25 years: all portraits of women. Among them are its record price of over 2800 euros, and a pastel sold for 2200 euros in 2022... - Please note that this canvas needs restoration as it has suffered some damage, visible in the photos (snags and tears). These are fairly basic and can be corrected by a professional: with a little care, it will regain a very beautiful appearance, as its quality of execution is undeniable. - Canvas size: 55 cm x 46 cm.
