Superb fragment of a Karabakh Maffrash originating from Armenia in the Caucasus. Maffrash are the largest carrying bags used by the nomadic populations of Persia and the Caucasus. This fragment corresponds to one of the two large panels. Sumak technique, wool on wool. The piece is in a state of preservation bordering on miraculous. At first glance, one is instantly captivated by the multiple reflections of the indigo blue. Their freshness and purity create a kind of relief on the surface. It is marvelous. Circa 1880.
