Small solid silver toilet candlestick. Engraved with the name Johan Frederich Keneke and dated 1748. Germany, circa 1720-1730. ----- Height ~16 cm Base ~10 x ~10 cm Weight 197 g Very good condition The baluster-shaped, octagonal stem with knots was cast using a shell mold and soldered onto a square, canted foot, hammer-mounted; the round socket terminates in a faceted ring (softened by use). The quarter-round of the foot, the top of the stem, and the top of the socket are decorated in the Bérain style with lambrequin motifs and small flowers on a matte background. Only one hallmark: that of the silversmith, unidentified [see detail photo]. Very interesting engraved name on one side of the foot: Johan Frederich Keneke 1748
