Soissons 1743-1760, Jacques Claude Pourcelle, Solid Silver Egg Cup
Artist: Jacques Claude Pourcelle Actif 1743-1787
Extremely rare Louis XV period coquettes in solid silver. Its shape is typical of the mid-eighteenth century. Contrary to most Soissons silversmiths, it bears neither the jurande nor the mark, but only the master silversmith's hallmark three times, as for a master subscriber. The Pourcelle silversmith seems to have done this on several occasions, as three of his objects published in Martine Plouvier's book "Les orfèvres de Picardie" (Picardy silversmiths) present the same scenario: three master silversmith hallmarks or nothing. The hallmarks are not all perfectly legible, but as every other part of the hallmark is clearly legible, it is easy to reconstruct the complete hallmark: JCP under a crowned fleur-de-lys between two grains of medicine, with a boar's head in the center. The egg cup is in perfect condition. Weight 123 grams
