Rare Spanish bronze kiss of peace, cast, chased, and engraved, made in Burgos around 1570, linked to the famous model disseminated by the goldsmith Bernardino de Napoles.
This type is documented in Burgos metalwork of the second half of the 16th century and corresponds to a liturgical production widely distributed in the diocese of Burgos.
Description:
The circular plaque features in its center a recessed medallion adorned with a relief of Christ in profile.
The peripheral rim is decorated with alternating cherub heads and circular motifs, highlighted by a frieze in low relief.
The perimeter adopts an architectural rhythm, crowned by a finial of a cherub's head.
The trapezoidal base supports in its center a cross pattée flanked by small cherub heads.
The reverse retains traces of an old engraving, now very faded.
The rear handle, rectangular in section, is decorated with alternating ovals and billets.

Condition:
Good overall condition, with a uniform antique patina.
This model is held in several collections and museums, particularly in Spain, and is among the emblematic forms of Castilian Renaissance portapaces.
