An American Civil War period, Union soldiers “Mcdowell” pattern forage cap. Two piece, dark blue cotton body with patent black leather peak which does show some splitting and wear. Brass Federal buttons and chinstrap are absent. The crown does show possible badge holes. Interior is lined with polished black cotton and has a tan leather sweatband. Manufactures paper label applied to the crown lining, showing “Size No.3 7 U.S.ARMY L.J & I.Phi”. A scarce piece of American Civil War headgear.
