First Empire Hussars General's Sword
Superb French First Empire, General of Hussars sword. A curved, single fullured, clipped back blade measuring approximately 81cm in length. Beautiful blue & gilt design running approximately half its length, showing various stand of arms, “Vivat Hussard” and “Republique Francaise” with a mounted hussar soldier between. Two General stars are seen on the opposite side of the balde. To the backstrap is a gilt manufactures mark of “Berger Marchand Fourbisseur a Strasbourg”. Consulate “etrier” style hilt design, showing a blackened and gilt finish with simple floral engraving. Original leather covered grip being wire bound and terminating with a large capstan pommel. Complete with its blackened steel scabbard, having two leather panels to either side and matching gilt design. Very nice condition.
