French First Empire "Superior" heavy cavalry officers sword. An exquisite private purchase sword having a double fullered, heavy cavalry style straight blade. A blue and gilt design running approximately one quarter of the blade length, showing stand of arms, and floral engraving. Fully gilt brass hilt having "attack guard" knuckle bow which is secured with sprung lever. Quillons somewhat reminiscent of the Mousquetaires cross. Complete with its gilt brass scabbard that is also decorated with floral engraving. A couple of stain marks to the plain section of the blade but overall a very impressive sword.
