French 1763-66 Model Cavalry Pistol

French Revolutionary Period Model 1763-66 Cavalry Flintlock Pistol. All steel fittings with smooth 14 bore barrel showing the model year “1763” to the barrel tang and worn proof mark to the breech. Lock in good working condition, engraved to the flat with ‘Mre de Livreville’. Full walnut stock and regulation steel mounts, complete with ramrod. Showing expected wear but overall a good example of a scarce pistol.

Notes –
This is an example of a French Military Model 1763 flintlock pistol. Approximately 35,000 pairs were ordered from the Charleville Arsenal which had been given the more freedom friendly name “Libreville” (Freetown) by the revolutionaries. With the passing of the “Reign of Terror” period of the revolution, Libreville returned to its original name, and marked the pistols produced from then on as such.
