The rectangular body is made of plain silver. The lid is decorated with a magnificent guilloché pattern of concentric wavelets in yellow enamel.
The rim of the lid is enameled, using the champlevé technique, with scrolling foliage left in reserve on a blue background and a peripheral white border.
The case is hallmarked inside the body and inside the lid:
A head of Diana within a hexagon: 900/1000 hallmark for small and large Austrian pieces, from 1866 to 1922.
A silversmith's mark: FS for Franz Schneider, active from 1903 to 1915.
A swan hallmark, a later French control mark.
This box is a superb example of Austrian goldsmithing, renowned for its guilloché and enameled pieces, featuring a beautiful, warm, and luminous yellow enamel.
