A rare, solid silver wine taster from the mid-18th century, featuring a ribbed design highlighted with dots and a serpent handle. The rim is engraved "LEONAR BERTHONAT". It bears the charge mark (a crowned A with a palm and laurel wreath) and discharge mark (a boar's head) for Paris 1750-56, the guild mark for Paris 1754 (a crowned O), and the mark of the master silversmith Jean-Guillaume Vealle (a crowned fleur-de-lis, two grains, his initials "JGV" and a heart), registered in 1754.
