"Baube: Large 18th Century Solid Silver Platter With The Coat Of Arms Of Tours, 1742"
An extremely rare Louis XV period solid silver Tours platter, circular in design and bordered with fine lines. The rim is engraved with a coat of arms surmounted by a helmet. It bears the charge mark for Tours 1738-44 (a crowned lowercase e), the control mark, the guild mark for Tours 1742 (a crowned T), and the mark of the master silversmith Jean-Baptiste BAUBE (1722-1775), known as J. BAUBE-PERRIN (a hallmark with the initials "IB," a tower and a crown above, two grains and a crescent below). This extremely rare Louis XV period armorial Tours platter is in very good condition, with a beautiful patina and minor scratches from use. For the discerning collector.
