"Rondot: Rare 18th Century Solid Silver Platter With Coat Of Arms Of The Count Of Troyes 1777-78"
Extremely rare heavy round Troyes dish in solid silver from the 18th century, with a bordered rim. The rim is engraved with magnificent period coats of arms surmounted by a count's coronet. Two small engravings are located on the back edge, "DMV" and "LM". Charge mark (numeral "RS") and discharge mark (crozier) of the Reims jurisdiction 1781-89, Troyes mint mark, Troyes guild mark 1777-78 (crowned E), and the mark of master silversmith Jacques Rondot (mark with the letters "RONDOT" on two lines, a knight's cross above, and a small fleur-de-lis below), registered in 1748. Extremely rare heavy Troyes armorial platter in very good condition and remarkably hallmarked, with minor scratches from use.
An exceptional silversmith, a platter by Jacques Rondot is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (formerly in the Wentworth Collection), and an oil cruet is in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Diameter : 27.5 cm.
