Piet Volckaert (1901-1973). Snowy dawn landscape with barge. Oil on cardboard, signed in the lower right corner, mounted in a gilded wooden frame. Dimensions: Frame: 27 x 34 cm. Subject: 25 x 32 cm. In the distance, on the other side of the canal, we see an industrial and steelworks landscape. The factories are silhouetted against the nascent pink of dawn. In counterpoint, these two silhouettes, motionless, observing the dawn. Piet Volckaert (1901-1973) painted many cities, urban landscapes, Brussels and its alleys. Canals were one of his favorite subjects.
