Isidore van Mens (1890-1985). Tunis (circa 1923). Oil on panel, titled and dated in the lower right corner, mounted under a canvas mat and wooden frame. Dimensions: Frame: 40 x 32 cm. Subject: 18 x 12.4 cm. This painting was probably painted during the painter's trip to Tunis in 1923 and produced in situ. There is a nice movement to be noted; the eye can linger from right to left; there is always something happening in this street. We feel that the self-taught Dutch painter was imbued with the oriental atmosphere. Isidore van Mens is known for his orientalist paintings, which remain his favorite subject.
