Charles Lebon (1906-1957). Wooded River Landscape (circa 1930-40). Oil on panel, signed lower right corner, mounted in a gilt wooden frame. Dimensions: Frame: 56.5 x 48 cm. Subject: 46.5 x 37 cm. Charles Lebon was a Belgian artist born in 1906 in Sint-Gillis and died in 1957 in Uccle. He was a painter and made his debut at the age of seventeen. He studied for a time at the Academy of Saint-Gilles, he was a pupil of V. Gilsoul, but still largely self-taught. Painted landscapes, forest views, seascapes and portraits. Found his inspiration in the Ardennes, Brabant, Kempen and on the Flemish coast. His works generally exude peace and serenity. Working in museums in Liège, Mons, La Louvière and Ostend, among others.
