Oswald Poreau (1877-1955) Smoke, oil on canvas signed in the lower right corner, mounted in a gilded wooden frame. Dimensions: Frame: 113 x 103 cm. Subject: 90 x 80 cm. Impressionist with free realism, he painted landscapes, industrial and port sites, flowers, portraits, engraver, lithographer, of the Belgian school. Oswald Poreau, received his training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels in both painting and architecture. His masters in painting from 1895 to 1900 were Joseph Stallaert and Joseph Quinaux and for architecture Ernest Acker. According to Georges Eekhoud "the work of Oswald Poreau gives us both an impression of power and harmonious progression." He continued his training in Paris in 1905. He settled in the bohemian milieu of Paris before returning to painting in the village of Barbizon. He returned to Belgium and traveled extensively throughout Europe (England, Germany, France and especially Brittany).
