Object description :

"Lively Beach. Oil On Canvas Signed By Jules Van Biesbroeck (1873-1965) - Impressionism"
Jules van BIESBROECK (1873-1965). Lively beach (circa 1910), superb oil on canvas (linen board), signed in the upper right corner. In excellent condition, beautiful period frame. Dimensions: Frame: 63.5 x 55.5 cm. Subject: 46 x 38 cm. Superb Impressionist subject by one of the masters of Belgian painting of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Son of the Belgian painter Jules Evarist Van Biesbroeck, Jules Van Biesbroeck grew up surrounded by artists. He began his artistic apprenticeship with his father and continued his training at the School of Fine Arts in Ghent. At the age of 14, he sold his first painting, The Shepherd, at the Ghent Triennial, then exhibited in Paris with The Launch of Argos, a work that shocked with its representation of nudes, but which earned him an honorable mention at the Salon. Jules Van Biesbroeck excelled in both painting and sculpture. In 1897, he won second place in the Belgian Prix de Rome for sculpture and the same position in painting the following year. His talents were recognized internationally, notably at the Universal Exhibitions in Paris and through distinctions such as a Grand Gold Medal in Munich in 1901 and a Gold Medal in Milan in 1906. He became a member of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in 1910. Following the First World War, he settled in Bordighera, Italy, and devoted himself to sculpture and Impressionist painting. In 1926, he traveled to North Africa, and in 1927, he discovered Algeria, a revelation that changed his artistic palette and led him toward Orientalism, particularly the inhabitants of Bou-Saada. He lived in Algeria until 1938, then returned to Ghent, where he continued to produce Orientalist works.
