"François Maury 1861-1933..great & Luminous Impressionist..venice & Grand Canal"
Large and luminous impressionist painting from the 19th century or early 1900s, which represents a remarkable view of the Grand Canal in Venice with characters costumed in Venetian fashion who are boarding a gondola... The work is signed by the famous painter François Maury (1861-1933) to whom the Bénézit devotes an important chapter and whose biography can be read on the Wikipedia site. note: born in Marseille, he is an excellent artist whose luminosity and technique are very reminiscent of Adolphe Monticelli (1824-1886) and even here Félix Ziem (1821-1811): see in particular in the background his way of treating the boat and the silhouette of the Campanile in the horizon... Objectively it is great art!
